Brick is the latest object d’art to embody Ashley’s ongoing fascination with reinventing everyday objects through new materials and expert craftsmanship. Its simple rectangular geometry follows the exact dimensions of a standard clay brick used for masonry since the beginning of time. To recreate it in stoneware, Ashley sought out Canadian-born ceramic artist and sculptor Alissa Coe to craft the bricks as hollow forms using plaster moulds and a slip casting technique. Each brick is handcrafted at Coe’s studio located in a stone farmhouse in rural northern Italy.

Available in four warm hues, the unglazed bricks are effortlessly versatile in creating moments throughout the house. While individually, each quietly adds a new elevation or spatial pause to a bookshelf, mantlepiece or credenza, they are also impactful when displayed in groupings, to be collected, stacked and rearranged like building blocks, echoing their traditional architectural function.
